"...an artist whose medium is sound rather than color "

Gifted artists are inspired at an early age, and spend the rest of lives nurturing their talents and developing their own unique style. William Linton is no exception, in that regard. His musical training began on a 19th century upright grand piano and an ancient pump organ. In the early 80s he became interested in electronic music. In his quest to understand the technical aspect of his art, he attended Belmont University where he studied music theory, composition, and audio engineering. And when he combined theoretical knowledge with his creativity and talent, Williams style began to emerge...

His first album, Travelers Tales, inspired in part by Carl Sagans public television series "Cosmos", received valued critical acclaim. National Public Radio, NPR, broadcast his Travelers Tales on their show Music from the Hearts of Space. The producer of that show, Stephen Hill, engineered the digital master.

Cosmic Flight, Williams second album, was quite a unique project. Created with fellow synthesist, Tony Gerber, and guitarist Mason Stevens, the music was recorded live and totally improvised. This collection of complete inspiration was also featured on Music from the Hearts of Space, along with music from Brian Eno, and it was most appropriately dedicated to the "explorers of humankind".

Continuing to explore the realms of synthesized sound architecture, Wayfarer is Williams latest journey. Close your eyes as you listen, and your imagination will take you through his musical landscape.

Following your path, wherever it leads you, involves a leap of faith. But as we can clearly hear in Piano Sketches, William continues to be inspired by new experiences. This time, his hearlfelt and impressionistic compositions are performed on an acoustic piano, solo.

On the Space for Music label, Williams music has also been included on two compilation albums - Space Radio 2000, and Basic Space.

And in keeping with Williams desire to explore new avenues of expression, he is currently working on a series of nature videos, entitled Natural Montage, which will features Williams new music.

Artists of sound, like William Linton, are a unique treasure. They have the ability to take us, the listener, on a musical journey, engaging our trust, and leading us through their creative world. That makes William Linton, and his music, truly exceptional.
